Breaking down in Dallas
Dallas is a city of freeways and big parking lots, and a breakdown can happen on either. Stemmons (I-35E) runs north out of downtown with service roads alongside, LBJ crosses the north side, and Central Expressway and the Dallas North Tollway head north through the city. Off the freeways are Love Field, NorthPark Center, Deep Ellum and Uptown. Pit Stop covers all of it, from Oak Cliff and the Bishop Arts District to East Dallas and Far North Dallas. Give the dispatcher the freeway, your direction and the nearest exit, or the closest cross streets, and a technician heads there.
A Dallas call might be a dead battery after a car sat in an airport or office garage, keys locked in the car outside a restaurant, or a flat picked up on the freeway. Light-duty work trucks and vans on job sites around the city get the same service.
Roads where we help Dallas drivers
- I-35E (Stemmons Freeway / R.L. Thornton Freeway) Called Stemmons north of downtown, where Mockingbird Lane links it with Love Field. South of downtown it is the R.L. Thornton Freeway, with the Dallas Zoo on its frontage road about three miles out. Elevated TEXpress toll lanes run on I-35E north of the Loop 12 split, so tell the dispatcher if you're in them.
- I-30 Runs east and west through downtown, where it connects with I-35E and with US-75. Fair Park is just off it a few minutes east of downtown, and west of downtown it is the road toward Fort Worth.
- I-635 (LBJ Freeway) Crosses north Dallas and links I-35E with US-75, passing Galleria Dallas at the Dallas North Tollway. Between Luna Road and Greenville Avenue it carries TEXpress toll lanes, part of them down in the LBJ Canyon below the regular lanes, with a continuous frontage road on each side.
- US-75 (North Central Expressway) Heads north from downtown past the Mockingbird Lane/SMU Boulevard and Lovers Lane/University Boulevard exits, meets LBJ, then carries on toward Richardson and Plano. Exits often carry two or three street names, so give the dispatcher a cross street too, and say if you're on the service road.
- Dallas North Tollway A toll road running north through Dallas, with an exit at Mockingbird Lane, the street that leads west to Love Field, and an interchange with LBJ at Galleria Dallas. Galleria's address is on Dallas Parkway, a street name you may see on signs near the Tollway there.
- I-45 Comes into Dallas from the southeast on the route from Houston and has a connection to I-30 near downtown. Say northbound or southbound and give the last exit you passed.

Local tips for Dallas drivers
Say the number, not just the name
Dallas freeway names change along the way: I-35E is Stemmons Freeway north of downtown and R.L. Thornton Freeway south of it. Give the dispatcher the highway number, your direction and the nearest exit so the technician heads for the right stretch instead of guessing from the name.
On LBJ, say which level you're on
Between Luna Road and Greenville Avenue, LBJ has TEXpress toll lanes, and part of them run in the LBJ Canyon below the regular lanes. When you call, say whether you're down in the toll lanes, up in the regular lanes or on the frontage road, because each one is reached a different way, and the dispatcher tells you on the call whether a technician can safely get to you there. If traffic is moving past you in a live lane, 911 is the first call.
Garage letter, level and row
Love Field parks travelers in Garages A, B and C. Before you call from any Dallas garage, note the letter or name, the floor and the closest row or elevator. Signal can be weak deep inside a concrete garage, so move closer to a ramp or an open side if the call keeps dropping.

Roadside help in Dallas: common questions
My car died on a side street in Deep Ellum or Bishop Arts. What do I tell the dispatcher?
Give the dispatcher at (214) 367-5302 the street you're on, the closest cross street, the car's color and make, and the name of a restaurant or shop next to it if you can see one. On a busy night, those details help the technician spot your car. The dispatcher confirms the price and the arrival time for your spot on the call, before anyone drives out.
Will a technician come out to LBJ, the Tollway or another Dallas freeway?
Yes, if the dispatcher confirms a technician can safely reach your spot. Tell the dispatcher the freeway, your direction, the closest exit sign and whether you're in the TEXpress lanes, the regular lanes or on the service road. If you can still drive a little, ease onto the service road or an exit ramp, where there's room to work away from traffic. If someone is injured or the car sits where traffic is still moving, call 911 first.
Will you come to a parking garage at Love Field or downtown?
Yes. Have the garage name or letter, the floor and the row ready for the dispatcher at (214) 367-5302, and wait near the car if it feels safe. If the garage has a low ceiling or the technician should meet you at the entrance, the dispatcher sorts that out with you before anyone heads over.
Do you cover my part of Dallas?
Pit Stop covers the 48 Dallas ZIP codes listed above, from Downtown, Uptown and Deep Ellum to Oak Cliff, Knox/Henderson, Lower Greenville, East Dallas and Far North Dallas. If you're just over the line in a suburb, call anyway, and the dispatcher confirms coverage and an ETA for your spot.
Can you get a work truck or van going again at a Dallas job site?
Yes, for the problems Pit Stop handles at the roadside: jump starts, battery swaps, flat changes, air, fuel and stubborn lug nuts on light-duty work trucks, pickups, vans and fleet vehicles. Each call comes with an itemized receipt for your records. Companies that run several vehicles in Dallas can call dispatch to talk through service for their fleet.
While you wait
- Get out of traffic. If the car still rolls, ease onto the shoulder, the next exit ramp or a parking lot.
- Hazards on. Turn on your flashers. At night, keep your parking lights on too.
- Stay clear of the lanes. On a highway, stay buckled in the car or stand well behind the guardrail. Never between the car and traffic.
- Keep your phone free. The dispatcher may call back to confirm the spot. Keep the line open and the phone charged.
Hurt, in a crash or stopped in a live lane? Call 911 first.
