The short answer

Call (214) 367-5302 and Pit Stop's dispatcher quotes one price for the job you described. Cancel within 5 minutes of paying for a full refund. After that, you can still cancel before the technician arrives and pay only the $35 to $75 service fee; the rest is refunded. The dispatcher tells you the exact fee before you pay. The fee also applies if the job can't be finished for a reason outside our control.

How does Pit Stop price a roadside call?

We don't post one price for every job, because a jump start for a sedan in a driveway and a lug nut removal on a work truck across town aren't the same job. Instead, the dispatcher asks a few questions and gives you one total on the phone.

That total is what you pay for the job you described. If the technician arrives and the job can't be finished for a reason outside our control, such as the car needing a mechanic, details on the call that weren't right, or nobody at the vehicle, a $35 to $75 service fee replaces the quoted price and the rest is refunded. The dispatcher tells you the exact fee for your job before you pay. If the job is different from what you described, you hear the new price before any extra work. Say no, and we finish what was quoted if we can; if we can't, the service fee applies and the rest is refunded. If we can't get a technician to you, or can't finish because of something on our side, you get a full refund. The dispatcher explains this on the call, and you decide whether to go ahead before anyone drives out.

What affects the price?

Every quote starts from the same few basics.

  • The service you need, and whether you want a second one on the same visit
  • Your vehicle, from a compact car to a light-duty work truck, van or fleet vehicle
  • Where the vehicle is and how far the technician drives to reach it. A late-night call far from our Dallas base can cost more

What changes the price for each service?

Each job also has its own details. These are the ones the dispatcher asks about.

  • Jump start: the vehicle, and whether you also want a new battery installed. The dispatcher confirms the right battery for your car and when it can get there.
  • Battery replacement or installation: the battery your vehicle needs. The dispatcher confirms the right one on the call.
  • Lockout: your vehicle's make, model and year, and the kind of locks it has.
  • Flat tire change: whether you have a usable spare. Without one, tire delivery and installation is quoted instead.
  • Temporary tire plug: whether the puncture is small and in the tread. Damage in the sidewall or shoulder is not plugged, and a plugged tire still needs a tire shop repair from the inside.
  • Used or new tire replacement: the tire size, used or new, and what's available. The dispatcher confirms all of it, and the price, on the call.
  • Air delivery: how many tires need air, and whether one also needs a temporary plug on the same visit.
  • Locking or stripped lug nut removal: how many locks or nuts need to come off, and how badly a nut is rounded or rusted.
  • Fuel delivery: where you ran out and what you drive. You get enough fuel to reach the nearest station.

How does the price match work?

Have a lower written quote for the same service and vehicle from another roadside company serving your location? Tell the dispatcher before a technician is sent, send a copy the way the dispatcher asks, and Pit Stop matches it.

Here is what the quote needs.

  • The quote is in writing.
  • It comes from another roadside company serving your location.
  • It's for the same service, the same vehicle and the same location.
  • You tell the dispatcher before a technician is sent and send a copy the way the dispatcher asks.
  • Memberships, insurance benefits and free public programs aren't quotes we can match.

Do I need a membership or a plan?

No. Pit Stop has no membership, no sign-up and no yearly dues. You pay for the call you make, when you make it.

If you already have roadside coverage through an insurer or a motor club, you can still call us. Ask your provider how they handle reimbursement before you count on it.

Can my auto insurance reimburse me?

Every call comes with an itemized receipt. If your auto policy includes roadside coverage, you can send it to your insurer; whether it pays is up to your policy, so we can't promise it will.

The Texas Office of Public Insurance Counsel notes that roadside assistance is often an optional coverage added to an auto policy, that some companies pay less if you don't get their approval before getting help, and that some set a time limit for sending in receipts. Check your policy or ask your agent so you know the rules ahead of time.

How can I pay?

You pay on the call, by card or app, once you've heard the price and the arrival time and said yes, before a technician is sent. To pay by card over the phone, you must be the cardholder. If you cancel within 5 minutes of paying, you get a full refund. After that, you can still cancel before the technician arrives and pay only the $35 to $75 service fee; the rest is refunded. The dispatcher tells you the exact fee for your job before you pay.
