The short answer
Pit Stop Roadside Services brings used tires to drivers in Dallas and installs them where the vehicle is parked. A used tire is the budget way to get rolling again. Pit Stop is open 24/7 at (214) 367-5302. Read off your tire's sidewall size, and you hear what's available and the full price on the call. The dispatcher confirms the arrival time once a tire in your size is located.

What's included in used tire replacement
Used tires for cars, SUVs, pickups, vans, light-duty work trucks and fleet vehicles, whenever one in the right size is available; this service doesn't cover semi-truck or other heavy-duty tires.
- A used tire in your size, which the dispatcher checks with you on the call. Your door label lists a load index and speed rating; ask the dispatcher to confirm the used tire meets them
- A chance to look the tire over with the technician before it goes on: the tread depth, the four-digit date code and both sidewalls
- Your damaged tire swapped for the used one right where the vehicle sits, in a driveway, a work lot or a safe spot off the road
- Air pressure set to your vehicle maker's recommendation, the number printed on the driver's door label
- An itemized receipt for your files or to send to your insurer
When a used tire makes sense
- You need to be back on the road today and a new tire doesn't fit the budget right now
- The flat can't be repaired, because the cut or puncture is in the sidewall or shoulder
- The car is one you're selling or won't keep much longer, so new tread would go to waste
- Only one tire is damaged and the other three still have plenty of tread
- You'd rather not spend an afternoon waiting at a tire shop
When it's not a roadside fix
If no used tire in your size is in stock, you hear it on the call, with a new tire offered instead. A bent or cracked rim is shop work: if you describe one, the dispatcher tells you before anyone drives out.
Find the size without facing traffic
You don't need to crouch beside a tire near traffic to read its size. NHTSA says it's also in your owner's manual and on the tire label at the driver's door edge or post. On a highway shoulder, check the manual from your seat instead of opening a door on the traffic side, and stay buckled in with hazards on, as AAA advises. If you're in a live lane or anyone is hurt, call 911 first.
How used tire replacement works
-
Get the size, then call
The size code is molded into the sidewall, and USTMA notes your tire specs are usually on a label inside the driver's door, in the glove box or in the fuel door. Call with that size, your vehicle and where it's parked.
-
Hear what's on hand
The dispatcher looks for a used tire in your size and tells you whether there is one and the installed price, then confirms the arrival time once a tire in your size is located. When there's no match, you know before anyone drives out, and you can ask for a new-tire quote instead.
-
Look before it goes on
When the technician arrives, look at the used tire together: how deep the tread is, the date code and the sidewalls. Once you're satisfied, it goes onto your vehicle in place of the damaged tire. If the used tire doesn't match what the dispatcher described on the call (size, tread depth or age), that's on us: we find another tire, with a new arrival time, or you get a full refund. If it matches and you change your mind before it's mounted, only the service fee applies and the rest is refunded.
-
Aired up and ready
The technician sets the tire's pressure to your vehicle maker's number from the door label. You already paid on the call, so hang on to the itemized receipt.
How much does used tire replacement cost in Dallas?
The dispatcher gives you one total on the phone, and that's what you pay for the job you described. You pay Pit Stop Roadside Services LLC on the call once you've heard the price and the arrival time and said yes, before a technician is sent.
If plans change: refunds and fees
- Before you payYou hear one total and the arrival time. Say no and it costs nothing.
- Within 5 minutes of payingCancel for a full refund.
- Until the technician arrivesAfter that, you can still cancel and pay only the $35 to $75 service fee. The rest is refunded.
- At the carDone as described, the quote is all you pay. Can't be finished for a reason outside our control? The service fee replaces the price and the rest is refunded.
If we can't get a technician to you, or can't finish because of something on our side, you get a full refund. The dispatcher tells you the exact fee for your job before you pay.
If the job changes, can't be finished or isn't safe, and used tires
- If the job changes
- If the job is different from what you described, you hear the new price before any extra work. Say no, and we finish what was quoted if we can; if we can't, the service fee applies and the rest is refunded.
- If it can't be finished
- If the reason is outside our control (the car needs a mechanic, the details given weren't right, or nobody is at the vehicle), a $35 to $75 service fee replaces the price and the rest is refunded. The dispatcher tells you the exact fee for your job before you pay.
- If the spot isn't safe
- If the spot you describe isn't one we can work in safely, the dispatcher tells you before you pay. If the technician finds at the car that it can't be done safely, for example in a live traffic lane, and the car can't be moved somewhere safer, the job can't be finished for a reason outside our control: the $35 to $75 service fee applies and the rest is refunded.
- Used tires
- Used tires are sold as-is unless the dispatcher states a warranty on the call. If the used tire doesn't match what the dispatcher described on the call (size, tread depth or age), that's on us: we find another tire, with a new arrival time, or you get a full refund. If it matches and you change your mind before it's mounted, only the service fee applies.

What the price depends on
- Your tire size and the brand of used tire available in it
- How many tires you need
- Your vehicle, whether it's a small car, a pickup or a work van
- Where you are and how far the technician has to drive
- A late-night call far from our Dallas base, which can cost more
Used tire replacement: questions people ask
Are used tires safe to drive on?
A used tire is only as good as its condition. NHTSA says a tire is not safe once its tread is worn down to 2/32 of an inch, and that tires become more prone to failure as they age. That's why a used tire is inspected with you before it goes on: the tread, the date code and both sidewalls. Used tires are sold as-is unless the dispatcher gives a warranty on the call.
How do I read the date code on a used tire?
Find the DOT Tire Identification Number on the sidewall. Under federal rules its final group is a four-digit date code: the first two digits are the week and the last two are the year, so 2219 means the 22nd week of 2019. NHTSA says to look on both sides of the tire, because the number may not appear on both.
How much tread should a used tire have?
As much as you can get, since tread is what wears away. NHTSA's line for replacement is tread worn to 2/32 of an inch, or level with the raised treadwear indicators that run between the tread. A used tire close to that point has little life left, so look at the tread before it goes on.
How old is too old for a used tire?
Age matters as much as tread. NHTSA says tires become more prone to failure as they age, and notes that some carmakers and tire makers advise replacing tires once they reach six to 10 years old, however much tread is left. Read the four-digit date code on the sidewall, and check your owner's manual for your vehicle maker's own advice.
Should I choose a used tire or a new one?
It comes down to budget and how long you'll keep the car. A used tire costs less up front, but part of its tread and its life are already spent. A new tire starts with all of its tread. Pit Stop installs both, so ask the dispatcher to quote each on the same call and compare before anyone drives out.
What used tires do you have in stock?
Used tire stock changes, so it can't be listed ahead of time, and no brand or size is promised until the dispatcher checks. Call (214) 367-5302 and read the dispatcher the size from your sidewall or door label. You hear whether there's a used tire to fit and what it costs installed before a technician heads out.
How much does a used tire cost installed in Dallas?
You get one price on the phone for the used tire and the installation. That price is what you pay for the job you described. If the job is different, you hear the new price before any extra work. Have a lower written quote for the same service and vehicle from another roadside company serving your location? Tell the dispatcher before a technician is sent, send a copy the way the dispatcher asks, and Pit Stop matches it.
While you wait
- Say exactly where it's parked. Give the address, the lot or garage level and the nearest entrance, so the technician drives straight to it.
- Have the keys ready. For a tire job, have the wheel lock key too, if your wheels have locks.
- Leave room to work. If you can, clear some space beside the car where the technician will work.
- Keep your phone free. The dispatcher may call back to confirm the spot. Keep the line open and the phone charged.
